What to do on a city break to Dubai Aug 25

Located south of the Persian Gulf, Dubai is the jewel in the crown of the United Arab Emirates. It has risen to be the epitome of a global city, with an economy driven by oil and financial services, and the number of cheap flights available to Dubai means that it is within the reach of anyone wishing to experience it.

Dubai is a vibrant, colourful place, but it has not abandoned its traditional culture. Its influence can be seen on its architecture, cuisine and lifestyle. It has managed to balance this with a more westernised culture, making for a truly cosmopolitan city to see. There are many exclusive boutiques and designer shops for that special purchase, but if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, you can head off to the Ibn Battuta mall; it features many boutiques and restaurants, and is an essential place to visit it if you like to shop. It is regarded as one of the best places to shop anywhere in the world, and with the number of cheap flights to the Middle East on offer, you should have plenty of money left in your pocket.

Take the time to experience a more spiritual side of Dubai. The city’s Muslims are called to prayer five times a day across the city, and there are many picturesque minarets and mosques to visit. Take the Jumeirah Mosque, for example; it’s the largest place of worship in the city, and an excellent example of Islamic architecture. Best seen after sundown when it becomes floodlit, it presents an awe-inspiring sight.

The melting pot of influences and culture in Dubai is probably best represented in its cuisine. Located on a pier with an amazing view of the Arabian Gulf, Pierchic offers an Arabian twist on modern seafood dishes. Thattukada, at Palm Beach, serves fantastic South Indian cuisine at a bargain price. If money is no object, dining at the Al Mahara, the most expensive restaurant in Dubai, is a must. The experience starts with a mock submarine ride to the restaurant, located amidst a giant aquarium, which should set the mood for the award winning seafood on offer.

A city break in Dubai offers many unique experiences to make your holiday truly memorable.

Daytona Beach is hugely popular with the spring break crowd, and as such has plenty of water sports and racing for those seeking a thrill, as well as a lively club scene.

Planning a summer in Europe Aug 16

When you’re imagining yourself picking up the flight tickets to your next holiday destination, you will no doubt soon realise that you’re spoilt for choice. However, few areas make such a great and varied impression on even the most seasoned traveller than Europe.

A cultural, geographical and historical behemoth, Europe can easily compare to any other continent on the planet. An amazing wealth of adventures for the eyes, ears and taste buds waits the traveller, and with so many cheap flights to Europe available, it’s easy to experience them.

You may want to take your summer holiday near the Mediterranean. This is a favourite holiday destination for lots of Brits, and every year swathes of holidaymakers take cheap flights to Spain. The country has hundreds of pristine beaches, but for those who want to look beyond the clichés of sangria and paella, there is plenty on offer. It’s a treasure chest of architectural wonders, and many Roman ruins and baroque cathedrals are there to be explored. For something livelier, Madrid and Barcelona have much to offer, with Barcelona being a Modernist wonder with plenty of galleries, avant-garde restaurants and ground breaking architecture.

However, there is also stiff competition in the form of Paris. The ‘City of Light’ is thought of by many as the most romantic place in the world, making it the ideal location for springing a surprise holiday on your partner. As well as having arguably the best cuisine on the planet, it has more familiar landmarks than just about anywhere else.

For a different take on fashion, music and art, many people flock to Berlin. Reminiscent of an early 80s era New York, Berlin is home to many creative inhabitants, which gives it an atmosphere of tolerance and experimentation. Berlin is a city that never pauses to take a breath – cafes are busy until the wee hours and the club scene never seems to end. You may need another holiday after a visit to Berlin to recover.

Of course, there are many other fine destinations in Europe to enjoy. You may want to witness the majesty of Norway’s fjords, hike up one of Iceland’s dramatic volcanoes, or sample an up and coming destination such as Bulgaria or Albania. Whatever you choose, it’s guaranteed to be a memorable holiday.

What island should you visit on your next trip to the Caribbean? Aug 16

The mere mention of the Caribbean is enough to conjure an image of immaculate white beaches, exotic cocktails served from a coconut and a laid back, easy going attitude. This alone is a great attraction, but as lots of holidaymakers who hop on the freely available cheap flights to the Caribbean know, there’s much more to the Caribbean than this.

The Caribbean is a collection of islands, and therefore the sea is intrinsic to much of their culture and cuisine. One of the most popular islands for holidaymakers looking for bargain flights is Barbados, as no matter what your budget is, you can find a great place to stay. It’s one of the most developed islands in the region and therefore has plenty of amenities close to hand. It’s not all about cocktails, calypso and snoozy hammock-bound afternoons – Central Barbados has some excellent museums documenting the island’s colonial past, and it prides itself on the surfing, diving and hiking activities available.

For another fantastic water sport adventure, the Bahamas are hard to top. The Bahamas has a rum-soaked history of pirates and other salty sea-dogs, and Abacos is the go-to destination for sailing and acting out your Long John silver fantasies. Andros has pristine waters just made for diving, and Exumas has many cays waiting to be explored by kayak.

Since 2008, Cuba has really opened up to tourists. The home of the world famous Montechristo cigar goes against the grain of the other Caribbean islands, and demands that visitors have a sense of humour, adventure and flexibility. Although knowing some Spanish words can help you, Cuba is an easy place to get around and staying at one of the many cheap ‘casa particular’ – similar to a bed and breakfast – means you get a chance to interact with local Cubans.

The Caribbean is a popular place for tourists to flee the harsh winters, with many choosing to take cheap flights to Aruba. Aruba offers miles of excellent beaches, and the Arikok National Wildlife Park has plenty of deserted gold mines to explore. However, Aruba is an island that encourages you to do sit back and enjoy the hospitality.
With all this in mind, there is little wonder that the Caribbean is such a popular holiday destination.
