Online Guides versus Tangible Guidebooks Apr 15

There are a whole host of travel sites providing travel guides online but you can’t take them with you when travelling. Okay they are perfect for preparing travellers with useful information and inspiration for holiday ideas but here are 5 reasons why guidebooks make an ideal travel companion.

1) Guidebooks offer lots of peripheral information

Besides typical information on sightseeing, attractions and accommodation, guidebooks will also provide you with essential information on the following:

• Medical advice
• Illnesses
• Money
• Travel Safety – Do’s and Don’ts
• Local Scams

2) They are written from a traveller’s point of view

Not to discredit any online publications but you don’t always know who has written them and most online travel guides are produced by companies wishing to sell you holidays. Most of the better well known guidebooks are actually written from firsthand experienced travellers. These books are usually packed full of helpful advice that can be trusted.

3) Guidebooks can help you find your way

In most guidebooks you will find small maps which can prove very useful when navigating your way around the city. This means if you get lost you can consult your guidebook to help.

4) Guidebooks are a time killer

On lengthy journeys between destinations you can whip out your guidebook and start reading about your destination ahead of time. You can research the cheapest hotels the best places to eat before you arrive. Unless you are super organised and written everything down and printed everything onto paper to take with you, it is a little hard to try and remember everything you read online.

5) You don’t have to plan too far ahead

If you are travelling for a long period it will be impossible to plan everything ahead of time. With your guidebook you can just read about the destination once you arrive there.

A few tips when purchasing a guidebook:

• Always check you have the most up-to-date publication
• Don’t choose one book that covers 5 countries, books focusing on one destination will provide you with better detail
• You don’t always have to buy a guidebook before you go, you can usually pick up cheap books second hand from other travellers

In summary you will find very valuable information online for almost every destination you might wish to travel to, however they aren’t tangible and you can’t take them with you. You can save yourself a lot of trouble by travelling with a guidebook written by experienced travellers and will save you from planning too far ahead. However you need to be sure that you choose a guidebook written from a reputable company.

Traveling Cheap – Advantages of Sharing Car Hire Costs Apr 12

A holiday shared with the company of friends can help make rest and relaxation especially enjoyable, and there are many ways to plan for such a trip to help ensure that everything runs smoothly. One of the most important planning aspects to keep in mind is the overall budget, as exceeding trip funds can quickly lead to financial inconveniences and panic. Today’s many options for cheap travel can help make a vacation to nearly any destination less costly, and taking advantage of the group dynamic to split fees will allow any travel budget to be stretched and toned to its fullest potential. Though some travelers may consider car hire an expensive or luxurious holiday option, hiring a car with friends can actually be markedly economical. Combining cheap car hire with cheap flights and affordable hotels is a great way to keep holiday costs low.

The internet presents one of the easiest methods for sourcing inexpensive flights, hotel rooms, and car hire services, often as part of comprehensive holiday packages. Working with such packages and booking online can lower the amount of time spent preparing for the logistics of the trip, leaving more leisurely hours available for checking into potential attractions and activities. When friends book their car in advance of the departure date, they can often choose from several different models and can order special add-ons if necessary, allowing for a comfortable experience upon arrival. Whether reserved online, over the phone, or in person at a car hire desk, the right vehicle for the trip is likely to lead to considerable savings for friends who share car hire costs.

Taking several bus, tour van, or taxi rides during a holiday can quickly add up to a lot of money when multiple sets of tickets must be purchased or high occupancy fees are applied to transport bills. Having a single vehicle available to shuttle the group from one point to the next is not only more convenient than waiting in lines or relying on agency schedules, but can also keep transportation costs from sky-rocketing. Splitting the fees associated with car hire means that each traveler can budget a small amount for their daily transportation costs, without having to worry about any unexpected fares or emergency taxi charges.

In tandem with cheap flights and hotel accommodations, cheap car hire can make any vacation more affordable. Through sharing the final car hire bill, friends on holiday can easily experience a great trip at a fraction of the cost of traveling alone, and the ease of having a vehicle available at all time’s makes sightseeing and moving between airports and other holiday staples a breeze. Cheap car hire doesn’t have to be about endlessly searching for a better deal or waiting for a special offer. Sharing a hired car with friends is an instant ticket to holiday savings that don’t take a bite out of the fun.

However before going off and booking car hire it is advisable to read about the destination you plan to travel. There are various travel guides and driving guides online that provide you with valuable information when it comes to planning and saving money.

A Detailed History of the Princess Cruise Line Mar 29

The Princess Cruise line is a highly reputable organisation with a great history. They have been around since 1965 are a subsidiary of Carnival Cruise lines. The first ship was the Princess Patricia, but since it lacked air conditioning there were major issues when porting in Los Angeles and travelling the Mexican Riviera – which are very warm destinations.

Founder Stanley McDonald decided to utilise the Italia instead, which was designed with more space and didn’t look nearly as cluttered. However, it was not named the Princess Italia until 1967. The L.A. to Mexican Riviera cruises were successful enough to branch by 1969. The Princess Cruise line decided to open up Alaskan cruises that would port from San Francisco. It lasted for only four years and the ship was sent to charter the Costa Cruise line.

In 1974 the Peninsular Oriental Steam Navigation Company acquired the Princess Cruise line. During the 1970s, the Love Boat television series was a major hit and provided cruises around the world a comical treat during the week. This was extremely beneficial to Princess Cruises, because two of their ships were featured in the show.

Slowly but surely we were watching a small empire begin to develop. The Princess line of ships offered 3 major contributors at the time (Island, Pacific, and Sea Princess), but the first P&O built ship under the Princess name didn’t come until 1984 when the Royal Princess was introduced. The benefit surrounding this ship was the interior cabins that were available.

When 1986 came the Princess Cruise line was back in Alaska. This was a huge success that is still going strong today. In fact, they now have railcars available for scenic tours on land. This helped them purchase more ships and expand over larger territories. By 1990 they offered a large fleet of ships in various locations for tourists to enjoy.

Things were going well until 1998 when there was a lawsuit against General Electric. Princess Cruise line had to cancel two different 10-day cruises in order for repairs to be made. There was much debate over the situation where Princess won a $4.6 million dollar suit, but it was later overturned. They ended up receiving $232,000 when it was all said and done.

Fast forward to the latter part of the last decade and the Princess Cruise line decided to stop building any ships in 2008, but by 2010 they went with two more additions. You won’t find these as a part of their fleet until 2013 and 2014.

In the last 55 years the Princess Cruise line has gone from a small project to a monumental piece of Carnival UK. If you’re looking for a cruise line that will provide you with a lavish holiday around the world, the Princess Cruise line could be your best choice. They have spent half a century creating a credible company with ports all over for you to enjoy.

Railway Breaks Guide Mar 02

When the time comes to plan a holiday, don’t overlook the advantages of rail breaks. Travelling by train is a truly relaxing and convenient way to go, especially for short breaks. You get to take in the scenery, you don’t have to think about fuel prices or parking, and you can get out of town for a while without having to spend a lot of money.

Many people are interested in rail breaks, but are put off by the idea of planning one themselves. Search for “rail breaks” on the Internet and you are likely to get 50,000 or more results.

Where to begin? This is where an online travel agency can really be helpful. There are many advantages that come with using an online travel agency. They handle all the details of your rail breaks for you, so you save time and skip the stress. Have a great stay at a London hotel, see an unforgettable, world-class show, and enjoy a rail trip, all in one booking. The selection of available shows covers the whole range of stage entertainment, from Shakespeare to dramatic thrillers like “The 39 Steps” and “The Mousetrap” to all the big musical hits such as Shrek, Chicago, The Lion King, Grease, Les Miserables, Mamma Mia, or Phantom of the Opera. When booking through an online travel site, you can have the fun of deciding all your options at one go.

In addition to selection of your preferred shows and hotel, you get to choose whether you prefer an evening show or evening show with pre-dinner theatre, as well as your specific room arrangement. Room packages accommodate every need and family size.

The solo traveller who needs a single room and one ticket may find that purchasing a rail-hotel-theatre package is the best way to get a really great seat for the show since packagers can often get you a better seat than you could get buying a single ticket on your own through the box office.
