A cooler form of transportation in London Sep 26

There is no limit to the amount of complaints I receive on a regular basis from friends and family over London transport - especially the tubes. especially hot tubes. especially hot, crowded, commuter-filled tubes.

Luckily for us, this problem is being solved:

A new carriage was unveiled yesterday - spacious, air conditioned, improved CCTV cameras, disabled access and walk-through carriages were just some of the improved comfort facilities. These trains are to be introduced to the District line in 2 years and the Circle, Hammersmith & City lines were also reported to be accommodating the new trains by 2011, but those underground lines with deeper tunnels are still in need of a solution.

At least some people will arrive to work a bit less sweaty and bit more smiley.

The full story and photos of the trains can be found on BBC News.
